After a 1-1 tie last night, the Sharks broke the news to Ryan Smyth that he had been traded back to Edmonton, where he grew into "Captain Canada". Once Smyth had left, Sharks GM, Nick Ceglio, held a brief press conference to thank Ryan for his time here in San Jose. Once Ceglio got that out of the way, he had another announcement for the slew of media. Newly acquired veteran winger, Paul Kariya, was named the new captain of the San Jose Sharks. "Pauls done a lot of great things in this league...heck hes done a lot of great things in any league hes played in." And Ceglio wasnt lying. The list of accomplishments for Kariya is long, with Gold medals at the WJC in 1993, WC 1994 and 2002 Olympics. he also was on the 1994 Olympic team that took home silver in the epic shootout win for Sweden. Paul also won the Hobey Baker Award in 1993 as college hockeys best player. Newly named assistant captains are Trent Hunter and Nick Boynton
