Leafs Acquire Tim Thomas After trading Ilya Kovalchuk to the Washington Capitals a few days ago, Leafs GM went out and made another blockbuster move. The Leafs acquired Tim Thomas from the New York Rangers, along with former leaf, Alexei Ponikarovsky. The Maple Leafs traded away Blake Wheeler and Tuomo Ruutu. Tim Thomas last year had an outstanding year with the New York Rangers, and now Leafs GM hopes he brings that same game to Toronto. "Today we have easily acquired one of the best goalies in NHL today. We believe that Tim Thomas will guide us to the playoffs for the first time in 3 years. Trading away Ruutu and Wheeler was very hard but as they always say, to get something, you must trade something." said LeafsGM It was rumored that New York Rangers wanted Cody Hodgson from the Toronto Maple Leafs for Tim Thomas, but after acquiring Derick Brassard from the LA Kings, it seems that New York didn't care for Cody anymore. "Lets just say, Cody wasn't leaving no matter what" said leafs gm. Leafs Projected lineup with Tim Thomas and Ponikarovsky
