The SINHL is back and underway, and one of the biggest surprises to date has to be the play of the New York Islanders. Coming into this year, the Islanders were one of the oldest teams in the entire SINHL with an average age of 31 years old. But this offseason new Isles GM Dan Ramage came in with a vision, and dropped that average age to a very young 26, in hopes of building for the future. Even he would say that he wasnt expecting his team to start off a torrid 5-1-1, and be one of the East's best in this young season. A lot of this success has to be given to 2 players, which have been pretty much carrying the Islanders offence on there shoulders, we are talking about Chris Kunitz and Kris Versteeg. " Kunitz and Versteeg have been amazing for us, they have really been the source of our offense" said Islanders gm Dan Ramage . Kunitz is 1st in the entire league in scoring with 13 points in 7 games and Versteeg is 3rd in the league with 12 pts in 6 games.
This is very good production from a 2nd line, especially since teams will try to match up there better players against this red hot line, exposing the Islanders 1st line, which isnt too shabby either. The young Islanders defence also needs to be commended as they have let in 19 goals in 7 games, which is near the top of the league.
" I am very happy with the play of our young defence." said Ramage " They have really stepped up and made Hiller's job very easy." Tomorrow will easily be the Islanders biggest test, as they face the high powered Philadelphia Flyers. " This will be a big test for our young club" said GM Ramage " We cannot take them lightly, and nor should they, the Islanders aren't a pushover."
Let us hope the Islanders continue there strong play, it would only be good for the SINHL! Until next time im Blake Morrison
