The Sharks agreed to a deal with the Edmonton Oilers to send long time Oilers captain Ryan Smyth back to the great white north. Also on the move is youngster Woljtek Wolski. In return, GM Ceglio snagged veteran winger Paul Kariya and two very talented youngsters in Martin Hanzal, who will shift from center to his junior position of LW, and defenseman Sasha Pokuluk. The Sharks also acquired Detroits 2nd round pick in 2010 from the Oil. "This team is young and we just got even younger. We love the veteran presence of a Paul Kariya and bringing in the likes of Hanzal and Pokuluk along with a 2nd round pick? No-brainer on my part," Ceglio said. "We all know the leader that Smyth was and we thank him for his time as a Shark. I got an offer that, as a rebuilding team that is still competing, i just couldnt say no. Wolski is also a talented kid...but our scouts really love Martin and Sasha's upside. Two very large kids with loads of talent, something you dont get offered everyday." The Sharks have gotten off to a somewhat surprising fast start, considering all the turn-over. "The guys just come to play...thats all i can ask for. Older guys lead by example and the younger kids just use their instinct. You dont get drafted bc your name is russian, or your mommy is from Canada...you need to know how to play and all these kids can. Plus when you have a goalie like Nabby between the pipes, you have a shot to win every night." And the Sharks have now won their last four nights in a row.
